Herpes is basically a group name of the virus that results in blisters and sores that are often painful. One of the commonly known is the herpes simplex virus. This virus occurs in two types, type one and two. The type 1 virus leads to blisters and sores around your mouth while the other type 2 leads to genital sores. Therefore, type one causes oral herpes and type 2 leads to genital herpes. This virus is spread through close contact.

Usually, herpes type 1 is spread through infected saliva. Infected saliva contact may happen during kissing or when sharing personal items and utensils. This infection is associated with mouth infection or infection of the lips and face. Type II is usually sexually transmitted and the causes genital sores. It is, however, possible to transmit genital herpes even without visible symptoms. Herpes treatment is, however, important when an outbreak occurs.

The common signs of herpes include fever blisters, enlarged lymph nodes, and mouth sores. After the outbreak, herpes virus may drawback to the nervous system and may be activated by some triggers. There are various triggers that would activate herpes virus such as a weakened immunity, stress, surgery, hormonal changes, illness, and certain foods. For treatment of herpes, however, certain home remedies would be helpful. The following are some of them.

1. Applying Ice cubes.

In this case, you wrap several ice cubes using a plastic bag. You will then apply the ice pack on the blisters. The cold compresses should be repeated two or three times every day for one week. Since the ice pack controls swelling and helps to relieve pain, it becomes an ideal herpes treatment at home. Because of this, the underlying tissues are relieved from pain as well as burning sensation of the blisters.

2. Baking soda.

Basically, baking soda has become a popular home remedy with many applications. For the treatment of herpes, mix 2 to 3 teaspoons and one glass of water which is warm. Using balls of surgical cotton, apply the solution on the blisters. For successful treatment, apply the solution 2-3 times daily. Since baking soda is mild alkaline, it has some soothing effect. Because of this, burning sensation and itching due to herpes blisters are relieved. Baking soda is also a good anti-inflammatory agent that help to minimize swelling as a result of blistering wounds.

Although doctors may prescribe antiviral drugs to ensure the virus does not multiply, there are no known drugs for herpes cure. Therefore, home remedies for herpes can offer the much-needed remedy.
